A house guest of Nancy Astor's at Cliveden in the Thirties once said he would never want to live there because the house resembled a stage set.
He had a point: the place is rarely short of drama.
The magnificent Italianate palace that overlooks the Thames outside Taplow, Bucks, has been home to three Dukes and a Prince of Wales and famously hosted the first meeting of John Profumo and Christine Keeler by the pool in 1961.
Now, it is the scene of another piece of theatre: the crash of England's most flamboyant hotel tycoon, Andrew Davis.
